After dabbling in some martial arts in the late 1970’s, Thompson Sensei settled into Shotokan Karate more than 20 years ago. His training originated and continued with Bob Allen Sensei (past WKF official and current USANKF National coach), until 2005, when his affiliation shifted (due to distance) to Brian Evans Sensei of the Illinois Traditional Karate Organization (recognized by the World Traditional Karate Organization). Thompson Sensei founded the Shotokan Karate Club of Pawnee (Pawnee Shotokan) in 1998, and has maintained that dojo for the past 12 years.  He is an Official Instructor, Director of Competition, and is an Executive Committee member for the ITKO.  Additionally, he is an Official member of the USANKF, and has current license in both Kata and Kumite from that organization.  He has also completed the (ASEP) American Sports Education Program and is listed as a coach in their national registry. Thompson Sensei has had the honor and privilege to train with and learn from numerous instructors / officials from around the globe.
He and his wife Terri (of 33 years) have three children; Christy, Alex and Drew (two of which are black belts), and are very active in the community.  He is a village trustee, serving in his fourth term as an elected official and is a Registered Nurse (with Specialty certifications).  He is employed as the Director of Physician Training for Vertos Medical (a medical device company), and travels nationwide to provide physician support and education regarding the companies’ products.

Thompson Sensei’s other interests include: family time, church, motorcycling, reading, education, travel, and all contact sports.
